Ebook About
A New York Times–bestselling author and former Los Angeles Times reporter’s account of a con artist and bigamist who resorts to murder to hide his double life.   David Miller had a dream job and a beautiful family. But one perfect life wasn’t enough. So he pretended to be an attorney, then a CIA agent. And he secretly married another woman. He juggled it all quite well—until the day his two wives found out about each other. Miller groped for ways to hold on to his finances and reputation. But when he tried using a gun to silence his second wife, his carefully constructed facade of power and wealth exploded.   In Deadly Pretender, New York Times–bestselling author Karen Kingsbury dives into the tangled world of deceit, greed, and lust to reveal what drove a seemingly upright citizen to live a double life, and then, to commit the unthinkable.

Book Deadly Pretender: The Double Life of David Miller Review :

I have been reading true crime since I was about ten. Back then, the authors dug into and presented the stories of the characters involved, writing about what you never saw in the paper about the crime or those involved. Nowadays, many alleged true crime authors produce "books" that are nothing more than summation from what they find on the internet and perhaps an interview or two. Then the second half of the "book" is usually nothing more than trial transcript, scientific explanations of evidence or some kind of filler to make it appear like they have written a novel. This author reminds me of another great true crime author, Lowell Cauffiel, who, unfortunately for TC fans, has also left that genre. Mrs. Kingsbury presents a good story and keeps the trial summary very short. As a TC fan, I couldn't have asked for anything more. I would highly recommend this book to fans like me, who want the story behind the crime, the characters involved and no boring transcript of the trial
I know Karen no longer writes True Crime books, but WOW this book had me from the first page as all of Karen's books do! It is evident to see why Karen decided to pen Christian Life Changing Fiction Books. The horrific story of David Miller's betrayal to 2 unsuspecting wives had me sharing the story with others for days and I found myself at times trying to warn the characters while I was reading the book. Would love to see this made into a movie like Missy's Murder. I also enjoyed reading Karen's letter to her readers detailing why she stopped writing True Crime books. Throughout the book it is evident of Karen's spiritual connection with the individual in the story. Especially when she writes about the PI who prays and has a Bible verse on his desk. These are Karen's words from her letter to her readers: "They are true stories of choices and consequences, true stories of tragedy and darkness in a world that desperately needs light. There is no knowledge of light without darkness, no sense of good without evil, and no understanding of our desperate need for God without understanding how far gone we truly are."
